Accessing 1099s
For Hint Payments, emails inviting users to access their electronic 1099-K copies are sent out at the beginning of January to the owner’s email listed on the Hint Payment's application. The email comes from this email address: 1099-k@pmt-info.com. Be sure to check your spam or junk email folders if you don’t receive it in your inbox.
If you also processed payments with Stripe, you will receive a separate 1099-K for those transactions. This can be accessed directly within your Stripe dashboard.
If you do not access your electronic copy, a paper copy will be mailed to the address listed in your Hint Payments application by January 31st.
Ensure that your business’s mailing address and email address on the Hint Payments application are current to avoid delays in receiving your forms.
Note: The IRS requires payment processors to file 1099-K reports for all merchants that exceed the IRS minimums set for that calendar year. For 2025, the minimum is $20,000 and 200 payments. These thresholds are subject to change, so be sure to confirm annually for the latest IRS requirements.
If you did not receive an email to access your 1099-K please reach out to support@hint.com and we will provide you with a electronic copy.
How to Understand Your Hint Payments 1099
Your 1099 from Hint Payments reports your practice's gross payments based on transaction-date for the calendar year.
That means:
If a patient pays on December 30
But the funds are deposited into your bank account on January 2
The payment is included in the December (current year) 1099 total
The 1099 is based on when the payment was transacted, not when it was deposited.
Reconciling Your 1099 in Hint
To understand your 1099 total, you can use the Received Payments Report in Hint.
The Received Payments report shows all money received or refunded for both patient and employer charges.
Go to Reports → Received Payments
Set the Custom Date Range (for example: January 1 – December 31 of the tax year)
Filter by:
Transacted
Transaction Type: Payments (this excludes refunds)
Processor: Built-in Processor
Note: we provide this filter by processor given many practices processed on both Stripe and Hint in 2025. Filtering to 'built-in processor' will isolate just your Hint Payments for the year
The total shown should match the gross amount reported on your 1099. If you would like to analyze the data outside of Hint, you can also fully export the Received Payments report by clicking the download button. The export will include a column for each payment with which processor it was run on.
Having Trouble Reconciling your 1099?
Please reach out to our Customer Success team. We can assist with 1099 reconciliation by providing a transaction log of all transactions that form your 1099 total. We are working on ways to make 1099 transaction reports a self-service download directly in Hint. Until then, our Customer Success team can share this data to help answer any questions about which transactions are included in tax forms and any potential discrepancies. Discrepancies are often due to payment scenarios like ACH returns or payment settlement timing.
Important Note
Your Hint Payments 1099 is based on transaction date, not deposit date.
If you compare your 1099 to your Deposits Report or bank deposits, the numbers may not match due to timing differences across calendar years. For the most accurate reconciliation, always use the Received Payments Report filtered by Transacted + Payments + Hint Payments built-in processor.
