Hint Spend Management

Manage your practice's business spending in one place, included with your Hint subscription.

Written by Jahnis LaFaver

Hint Spend Management gives your practice one place to handle business expenses: a credit card, bill payments, and expense management, all included in your existing Hint subscription at no extra cost.

The Hint Card

Once activated, you'll receive a physical card in the mail. Key features include:

  • No annual fee

  • 1% unlimited cashback on all purchases, applied as a statement credit at the end of each billing period once your balance is paid in full

  • No credit check or personal guarantee required

  • Instant virtual card available as soon as you're approved

  • Additional cards for team members, contractors, or an assistant, at no cost

Payment Terms

The card operates as a charge card — meaning the full balance is paid automatically on the 10th of each month via autopay. This keeps you interest-free by default.

Need a little more time? Two days before autopay runs, you'll receive an SMS and email notice. From there you can:

  • Extend up to 5 days — free of charge

  • Defer to the following month — a fee applies (confirm current rate with your Hint rep)

Receipt Collection & Expense Policies

You can set a spending threshold that triggers automatic receipt collection. Here's how it works:

  1. Set a minimum amount. For reference, the IRS only requires receipts for purchases above $75, so many practices set their threshold there or lower.

  2. Any purchase above that amount triggers a text asking you to reply with a photo of the receipt.

  3. A follow-up text asks for a brief memo.

  4. Both the receipt and memo attach to the transaction automatically.

This makes reconciliation and end-of-year tax prep much easier.

Bill Pay

For invoices paid via ACH (rather than card), Hint's bill pay tool lets you:

  • Drag and drop a PDF invoice into the platform.

  • Hint automatically extracts the payment details.

  • Schedule the payment directly. No need to log into your bank separately.

Getting Started

To enable Spend Management, click "Install App" through Hint Marketplace and go through the onboarding flow. Once the app is installed, you'll go through a few short steps:

  • Verify your business: Provide your company information and connect your business bank account.

  • Account setup: If approved, your virtual cards are available right away and work with mobile wallet. Your physical card typically arrives within 3-5 business days, up to a week after approval.

  • Configure policies: Set budgets, limits, and restrictions, and set your receipt, memo, and approval requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Hint Card payment terms?
The Hint Card is a pay-in-full charge card. Any outstanding statement balance is automatically debited on your monthly payment due date from your designated bank account or Hint Balance. If the account can't be debited on the due date, your card may be locked until the balance is repaid, and late fees may apply.

Does the Hint Card have an APR or interest rate?
No, as long as your balance is paid in full each month.

Will Spend Management affect my credit score?
No. Hint doesn't run a credit check on you or your business, and it won't affect your credit score.

What will my credit limit be?
Your limit is based on your business financials. Connecting all your business bank accounts during the application helps you get the limit best suited to your business.

What does the application process look like?
It usually takes less than 3 minutes. You'll provide some information about you and your business (ie. your SSN, your business EIN) and connect your business bank accounts. A decision is typically made in real time, though it can occasionally take up to 2 business days if more information is needed.

How soon can I get my Hint Card?
Once approved, your account is available right away, and you'll have a virtual card you can use immediately for online purchases and add to your mobile wallet. Your physical card typically arrives within 3-5 business days, up to a week after approval.

Can I issue multiple cards?
Yes, you can issue unlimited cards at no cost, so each team member can have their own card with its own spend controls.

Does the Hint Card offer spend controls?
Yes. You can limit a card to certain categories, like fuel or hardware, or set a budget that caps how much a card can spend.

Does the card offer cashback?
Yes. The Hint Card earns unlimited 1% cashback on all purchases. At the end of each billing period, once you've paid your balance in full and on time, the cashback is applied to your account as a statement credit. Terms and conditions are subject to change.

Can I cancel my card?
Yes. There's no commitment. You can cancel anytime or simply choose not to use the card.

Does Spend Management work with Hint Bookkeeping?
Yes. Your charges, bills, and expenses flow directly into Hint Bookkeeping so your accounting stays in sync, all behind the scenes. Not enrolled? Learn more here.

Can I use Spend Management to track bills I pay outside Hint or that I've already paid?
Not yet. Bill Pay handles bills you pay through Hint. If something is already paid or on autopay elsewhere, there isn't a way to log it in Spend Management just for tracking today.

Can I connect my other credit cards to track expenses?
Not yet. Spend Management works with the Hint Card today. Connecting outside cards for expense tracking is something we're exploring, so if it matters to your practice, let us know and we'll pass it along.
