Junction lets you order labs, track them and review results from the patient chart, all without leaving Hint.
Junction comes with pre-negotiated Quest pricing, so you can start ordering as soon as you have access. You don’t need your own lab account, a pricing contract, or a price list to upload. Prices for each test show up in Hint when you place an order, and lab billing runs through Hint automatically.
Getting started
How do I get access to Junction?
As of October 2026, Junction is currently beta. Request access from the Marketplace in Hint. The Junction team adds new practices to the beta once a week and will send you an invite when your practice is added. Click "Request Beta Access" to get added to the list.
I requested access. When will I hear back?
The Junction team reviews requests and adds new practices once a week, so expect an invite within about a week. If it's been longer than that, reach out through the in-app chat.
Once I'm in, how do I start ordering?
You can start ordering right away with Junction's default lab account. This gives you direct access to their pre-negotiated cash rates with Quest.
What do I need set up before I can order?
Patient record: first name, last name, sex, a valid phone number, a valid address and an email.
Practice: at least one physician with a valid NPI tied to an individual, not a business entity.
Which labs can I order from?
Quest and Labcorp are available to every practice. Junction's pre-negotiated pricing is with Quest, so Quest is usually the lowest-cost option.
Specialty and functional medicine labs are available on request:
Functional medicine: Genova Diagnostics, ZRT Laboratory, Precision Analytical (DUTCH), Boston Heart, Diagnostic Solutions
Test kits: IHD, Nexus, CRL, USSL, Spiriplex, MyUTI
At-home blood collection: Tasso
To turn on a specialty lab, reach out through the in-app chat and we'll connect you with the Junction team to enable the catalog you need.
Can I request a lab that isn't on this list?
Yes, reach out through the in-app chat and we'll pass the request to Junction. New lab integrations are treated as feature requests, so we can't promise a timeline.
Placing lab orders with Junction
How do I place an order?
Junction is embedded directly into Hint’s lab ordering workflow, so your team can place and revisit lab orders without leaving the EMR:
Open the patient chart, go to Lab and select the Junction tab.
Select an order set: search for and add tests, or choose a saved panel.
Review and confirm: check the price of each test, the service fees, and the estimated cost.
Set the order details:
Bill type: Bill through Hint
Ordering physician
Collection method: On-site collection (drawn in your office) or Walk-in test (the patient goes to a lab patient service center)
Click Create order now, or Schedule order for later to place it on a future date. The order is saved as a lab interaction in the patient chart.
Can I build custom panels?
Yes. Build panels you commonly use to quickly re-order them for patients:
Go to the Lab Test Management page. You can get there by clicking "Manage" on the Junction page in Hint Marketplace.
Click purple "+ Create lab test" button in the upper right corner.
Select the lab (Quest or Labcorp) you'll be using.
Search for biomarkers or paste test codes. Add the labs you want to the panel. They'll appear in the righthand side of the window.
Configure details, including naming the panel, describe its use, fasting requirement, and default collection method.
Click "Create lab test". The panel will be created and you'll get a confirmation modal that will prompt you to create another test panel or view all created panels.
You can also edit, rename, and update any existing panels. Only your active, saved panels will appear in your Junction lab interaction.
Can I draw blood in my office?
Yes. Choose On-site collection as the collection method when you create the order.
On-site orders have no collection fee. If you choose Walk-in test instead, a collection fee applies.
How do I print specimen labels, view physician requisition, and view collection instructions?
After you submit the order, open the lab interaction in the patient chart. You'll see 4 options: Download requisition, Download results, Download collection instructions, and Generate labels. Click the one you need to open the relevant PDF.
When you click "Generate labels", you'll see a pop-up modal where you can enter the number of labels you need, one for each specimen tube or container. Then click Generate. A printable PDF opens in a new tab. Print it and put a label on each specimen.
Why can't I order for a patient?
Most often a required field is missing from the patient record (see "What do I need set up before I can order?"). If everything is filled in and you're still blocked, contact support through the in-app chat and we'll help you out.
What lab pricing do I get with Junction?
Junction provides pre-negotiated lab pricing with Quest and standard lab prices with Labcorp.
Where can I see prices?
After you have access to Junction, you can see prices on the Lab Test Management page by clicking "View Test Catalog" in the upper right corner. Search the test menu for prices by test, or build a custom panel to see the price of the whole panel.
You can also see lab prices before you place an order, the review step shows the price of each test, any service fees, and the estimated total.
Lab results and billing
How do I track an order?
Open the lab interaction in the patient chart. It has three tabs:
Overview: the order’s current status, when it was last updated and the expected lab turnaround time.
Events: a timeline of the order. Each step shows a date and time when it happens: Ordered, Requisition created, Draw completed and Completed.
Results: the results, once the lab sends them.
How long do results take?
It depends on the tests on the order. The Overview tab shows the expected turnaround for that order, plus the latest it could take. For example, it might say “within 10 days of collection,” with a latest of 16 days. Turnaround starts when the specimen is collected, not when you place the order.
Where do I see lab results?
Partial and final results show up in your Hint inbox and in the patient chart. Click the lab interaction to reopen the Junction view of the order.
What charges will I see on a Junction lab invoice?
Lab fee: the cost of the tests on the order. It reflects the tests the lab actually ran, so the amount varies from order to order.
Collection fee: a flat fee per order for Walk-in test orders, where the patient goes to a lab patient service center. It doesn't depend on how many tests are on the order. You'll see the exact amount on the review step before you place the order. There's no collection fee for on-site collection that happens in your clinic.
How does billing with Junction work?
When a Junction lab order is completed, two things are created in Hint:
A charge to your practice for the lab. It's invoiced and billed automatically.
A draft patient invoice that follows the coverage rules you set up in Hint.
Your patient pays your practice, and your practice pays for the lab through Hint. These are two separate transactions.
How do coverage plans work with Junction labs?
Junction lab charges are automatically put in the Labs category. That lets you use coverage rules on your membership plans to decide who pays for labs. For example, you can:
Include labs in a membership, so the patient isn’t billed
Bill labs to an employer sponsor instead of the patient
Bill the patient directly
Does the patient invoice go out automatically?
No. Patient invoices from Junction orders stay in Draft until you issue them. You can review them, adjust pricing and then issue them like any other patient invoice.
When is the charge created: when I place the order, or later?
After the lab order is completed. You aren't billed for orders that are redrawn, spoiled, canceled or never drawn, and the charge reflects the tests the lab actually ran, including any reflex tests.
